Finalist – New Zealand Geographic Photographer of the Year

I’m honoured to announce that I’m a finalist for in the 2016 New Zealand Geographic – Photographer of the Year competition.

This was an incredible Aurora Australis display from near my house in Kingston, overlooking Lake Wakatipu. The moon was setting with the Milky Way core just above. Once the bright moon faded behind the Eyre Mountains, it revealed an even brighter and colourful Aurora display. At the start of the clip, there was a Proton Arc, which is rarely seen as it danced across the sky towards the moon quite far west.

My wife Katrina won the 2010 New Zealand Geographic – Young Photographer of the Year with a beautiful nature portfolio of images. Click here for her stunning set of images.

Be sure to watch in full screen 4K/1080P

With a People’s Choice vote happening over the next few weeks, and the awards night in late October in Auckland. Good luck to all the other finalists!
